A look inside Jamorama
Jamorama review

JamoramaI've seen Jamorama become the most popular guitar learning course on the web. Now, just because something's really popular, doesn't necessarily mean it's good for you. So, I decided to take a closer look to see if it met the following important criteria:

1) Gives you the freedom to experiment with your own style of guitar playing

2) Inexpensive, good value for money and free introductory lessons (why should you have to pay for any guitar lessons before you get a taste for their style of teaching?)

3) In depth multimedia based lessons - clear video, audio, software and a bit of good old text!

Most of the guitar courses on the web fall short of these 3 points, and only attract impatient guitarists with a "quick-fix" mentality. A good guitarist this maketh not.

Ben and the guys at Jamorama have aimed to fulfill those three criteria and have created an exceptional, well rounded guitar learning course without you having to fork out for an expensive personal tutor.

Let's take a cheeky look inside Jamorama...

Jamorama's multi-screen videos

I've seen a lot of so-called "video guitar lessons" that are unclear, unfocussed and, quite frankly, useless! Why? It's always the same problems - the tutor in the video will blitz through the lesson too quick, talking over their playing and the awkward camera angles mean you can't absorb what the hell they're playing anyway. It all just becomes a confusing mess!

What the guys at Jamorama have done is acknowledge those common problems and put video into a crystal clear, multi-angled format. Simple...

Couldn't get much clearer than that, could it? It's one of the things that has pushed Jamorama above the competition. Simple, but very effective.

The video library is segmented throughout the course itself and associated videos are conveniently a click away on lesson pages.

Jam tracks - the essence of Jamorama

Jamorama has become hugely popular because of its jam-along tracks. Learn the techniques, then put them to use by jamming with a real band!

As Ben points out in a video on the Jamorama homepage:

"You can sit in your bedroom and learn drills, theory and skills as long as you want... but what's the point if you don't take those skills and put them into practise, and into context?"

He's talking about writing your own songs, or at least jamming along with a real band. Jamorama has one of the best collection of jam tracks to let you do just that. The techniques you learn in the course can be applied over the jam tracks. Burn them to CD if you're not going to be playing near your computer!

There's plenty of variety in the track library, across several musical genres, to experiment with your new found playing skills.

A particularly useful feature is you can turn the guitar track off and jam along with the drummer and bassist or you can leave the guitar track playing and provide a solo or extra rhythm guitar to the mix.

Jamorama's lesson structure

The Jamorama guitar course takes you step-by-step from absolute beginner through to intermediate with a solid introduction to advanced techniques. A lot of courses out there just have a "library" of lessons, with no goals or clear path for beginners to follow. It's important that you don't get lost or confused at this stage of learning, and you know where you're going next with Jamorama's clear lesson plan.

One thing I appreciate about Jamorama is that it doesn't rush you. It doesn't pretend that "learning in one weekend" is somehow the most important thing here. It allows you to develop your guitar playing at your own pace, through logical stages of progression.

Jamorama's free bonuses

Here's some of the free bonus software you get with Jamorama:

GuitEarIt! Ear Training Game - to help you ditch the chord charts and be able to pick up music on guitar as you hear it.

Guitar Tuner Pro - to learn the most effective methods of tuning your guitar (important!)

The Jamorama Metronome - just a very useful tool to have, and a cool piece of software designed by the guys at Jamorama! I use this all the time.
