Holding guitar while sitting

by Max
(AR)

When I play while seated the guitar neck seems to want to move away from me when I release one chord to go to another. Needless to say this slows me down.I have tried several things like a footstool, and putting the guitar on my left leg instead of my right one, but I still seem to have this problem. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thank you.

Answer

It sounds like there's not enough support on the body side. Use the upper part of your strumming arm to support the guitar against your body, but loose enough so your strumming arm can still pivot freely over the strings. Then, when you lift off the fretboard with your fret hand, there should be enough stability for it not to move around too much.

Thanks for answering my question. I will try different ways to support the guitar using my right arm.
